Ødegaard and Ramsdale done

Deals to sign Martin Ødegaard from Real Madrid and Aron Ramsdale were both completed late afternoon today. Per The Athletic, Arsenal will pay €35million for Ødegaard, who impressed during a six month loan spell in the second half of last season, and £24million with a potential £6million in add ons. 

Ødegaard is likely to be in the squad for Sunday's clash against Chelsea. It remains to be seen if the same can be said about Ramsdale, but with a Friday noon cut off point to be registered for this weekend and the deal seemingly close to completion, then it would seem likely.

There'll be further thoughts on the signings and what they may mean tomorrow, but for now lets wish them both the best of luck at Arsenal.

I honestly didn't expect us to win on Friday night. Not because I think that Brentford are a more talented team, but at no point during our pre-season games did I get the impression that we had showed any signs of improvement, in particular in our attacking play and chance creation, so really there is no point in going over the details of the game in any depth.  What I didn't expect was for the team to seemingly roll over and give up with out much of a fight. The top 4 paradox

Unless you've been living under a rock, you will be well aware that Arsenal currently sit fourth in the league, four points clear of Sp*rs, and with the opportunity on Thursday to seal qualification for the Champions League for the first time since the 2016/17 season if we are able to overcome win one of the most high-stakes North London Derbies in years. Being back at Europe's top table would be an exciting prospect, you might think. Slightly terrifying considering our current squad, but it's what we have been striving for for the last five years, so the potential to achieve that goal with this threadbare squad of also-rans and comparative kids would be a hell of an accomplishment, and one that many, many of us will celebrate with great enthusiasm. Finding perspective

So  the transfer window has closed and Arsenal have signed a grand total of 0 players to come in to the first team squad whilst getting rid of a few more. This has led to predictable outrage. Claims that our season and push for the top four is over. That Edu and Arteta  have to  go. That we will be lucky to finish in the top half. Last week I said that it would be bordering on negligent for Arsenal to not fill the two positions that we knew we had the biggest need for when the transfer window opened: center forward and center midfield.
